2007 Football Schedule is released

Driving home from work today, listening to 560 WQAM (the local sports radio station), I was informed that Miami will NO longer be playing Florida State on Labor Day. I said to myself, "it is about time." I think this is the best decision that the university has made. Look at what happened when Miami has played Florida State on Labor Day night, they have lost two consecutive seasons to the Seminoles.

The Orange Bowl will be hosting seven home games this season. The first home game will be held against Marshall. The Canes will only have four ACC matchups at the O.B., which will include: Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Virginia. The most notable, yet shocking home game is against the Florida International University Panthers.

After last year's bench-clearing brawl, I am shocked to see that FIU is playing the Canes. I understand that it is being held at the Orange Bowl, because of the capacity, however we all know what happened last year, and who says it won't happen again this year?

The fight between FIU and Miami was heard all around the nation. I was at that game and it was the worst thing I have ever witnessed. At one point, I was afraid for my life, because fights were beginning to break out in the stands. After the game, there were talks about ending the "rivalry" between the two schools.

Overall, the Canes have an easy home schedule; however the most difficult games are away, which could be detrimental to the team.

Head coach, Randy Shannon, is looking forward to the 2007 season, but knows that it will be very competitive, which is something Miami is used to.
