Reddick and Davis, possibly out for season

According to head coach, Randy Shannon, junior safety, Anthony Reddick and senior linebacker, Romeo Davis may be out for the season due to knee injuries.

"Right now, they're both going to be out," Shannon said. "But like I said, the body may heal faster."

In April, Reddick had reconstructive knee surgery after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Davis, who missed last season with a torn right knee ACL, has started 13 games in three seasons.

Shannon does not know whether or not quarterback, Robert Marve and receiver, Jermaine McKenzie, who were injured in a car accident last week, will also miss the season.

Marve Injured in Car Crash

Freshman quarterback, Robert Marve, injured his left hand on Monday in a car crash on I-75 near Naples. The car was driven by freshman receiver, Jermaine McKenzie. Also in the car was sophomore linebacker, Colin McCarthy.

McKenzie and McCarthy did not recieve any injuries during the crash. Marve sustained lacerations on his left hand and wrist, in addition to dislocating his left ring finer. Marve was at Naples Community Hospital on Monday, having surgery on his hand.

''They cleaned out the finger and made repair work. The surgery went fine," said Robert Weiner, who was Marve's coach at Tampa Plant High School.

Weiner said Marve won't play football ''for at least a month,'' and probably won't be ready until October.

Paul Dee Steps Down as Athletic Director

On May 9, Paul Dee, announced that he is stepping down as athletic director of the University of Miami. Dee will retire on June 1, 2008. He has been the AD at UM since 1981. He is tied with Jack Harding for the longest time as an athletic director, 15 years, at Miami.

"When I step down next year, I will have been at the University of Miami for 27 years and in this job as athletic director for 15 years," Dee said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the athletic department, but I have always wanted to teach and be a member of the faculty, and this way I can transition to the faculty and teach at the University for a few years before I retire." (Hurricanes Athletic Site)

While at Miami, Dee has focused on for points for the athletic department:

  1. The success of its programs

  2. The development of its student-athletes, both athletically and academically

  3. The quality of its staff

  4. The improvement of facilities

It is not known who will replace Dee, but whoever it is, they certainly have some big shoes to fill.

"I thank him for his extraordinary service to the university. I'm pleased that he will be joining the faculty and look forward to his continued wise counsel. His measured, full and thoughtful advice to the leadership of this university has been unmatched," said UM President Donna Shalala.

Canes in 2007 NFL Draft

In this year's NFL draft, three Hurricanes were drafted in the first round, for the 13th consecutive year. The players were:

  • Brandon Meriweather- New England Patriots (24th)

  • Jon Beason- Carolina Panthers (25th)

  • Greg Olsen- Chicago Bears (31st)

"It means a lot to the university because we are a family and this is a unique place. A streak this long means we've had a lot of really good players come through here. But, to me, to have players drafted in the first round and to have them already graduated, that's what is really important. We pride ourselves on being the best we can be on and off the field, and this is another example of that," said Randy Shannon.

The Canes will be well represented in the NFL, with players like Jonathan Vilma, Willis McGahee and Jeremy Shockey.

The Heated Rival

The Miami-Florida State rivalry dates to 1951, when the Hurricanes defeated the Seminoles 35-13 in their inaugural meeting. The schools have played uninterrupted since 1966, with Miami holding the all-time advantage, 29-21.

Wide Right I
  • 1991 at Doak Campbell Stadium

  • Miami 17, Florida State 16

  • Florida State kicker, Gerry Thomas

Wide Right II

  • 1992 at the Orange Bowl

  • Miami 19, Florida State 16

  • Florida State kicker, Dan Mowrey

Wide Right III

  • 2000 at the Orange Bowl

  • Miami 27, Florida State 24

  • Florida State kicker, Matt Munyon

Wide Left I

  • 2002 at the Orange Bowl

  • Miami 28, Florida State 27

  • Florida State kicker, Xavier Beitia

The Hurricanes and Seminoles have a hate-hate relationship, always have and always will. This rivalry will continue on for years to come, especially since the two schools are playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Where It All Started...

I have always been a Hurricanes fan since I was a little girl. It was started with my dad, Jay. When I was little, he would stick me in front of the television and we would watch football games together. I have pictures of him putting a Hurricanes hat on me. That is where it all started.

One Halloween I wanted to dress up as a Miami Hurricanes cheerleader. I kept begging my mom to find the outfit. Well, we put some stuff together and she bought me orange and green pom poms. I was so happy.

1997 is when I first attended a Hurricanes football game. My family had tickets in the west end zone. I just couldn't believe that I was right there seeing all of the action in person. From there, the rest was history.

Today, I am 22 years year old and still a huge Hurricanes fan. I have a Hurricanes license plate on my car, key chain, shot glass, jewelry, purses, clothing, shoes, etc. Even my desk at work is decorated with Hurricanes gear. I cheer on the Hurricanes more than my own school.

I definitely bleed orange and green. When I have children, they will also become Hurricane fans, whether they like it or not.

UM-FIU Brawl

October 12, 2006- a day that will go down in NCAA sports history for years to come. On that night, the University of Miami Hurricanes hosted the Florida International University Golden Panthers at the Orange Bowl. This was the first meeting between the schools, and hopefully the start of an inner-city rival. Well no one would ever imagine, that a particular October evening would turn into what it did.

I have been a season ticket holder since 1997, and I really enjoyed watching games at the Orange Bowl, however this particular night was special for me. I was approached by a member of the University of Miami football marketing team, they had asked myself and my aunt to participate in a football toss game, in which I was very familiar with. The idea of the game was to throw as many footballs into a hole, given 30 seconds. Of course, I said yes.

With five minutes left in the first quarter, my aunt and I met the woman in front of the gates, and were later escorted to the field. I was very happy, because I was actually on the field. A few of my co-workers were actually at the game as well. My name was announced over the loud speakers throughout the entire stadium, and for 30 seconds, I was the center of attention, in front of thousands of fans. Unfortunately, I had lost, however it was an experience, that I would never forget.

After that moment, I was floating onto cloud nine, then trouble started brewing. What I was about to witness was the scariest thing in the world. A fight started to break out onto the field, which cleared the benches of both teams. I have never in my life as a football fan, saw anything like this. The fight continued to what seemed like an hour, then I look to my left and fights started breaking out in the stands.

At that point in time, I was afraid for my life, because I didn't know if a riot was going to break out. My dad and aunt wanted to leave, because things were completely getting out of control. I don't even know how many fans were arrested, but eight FIU and five Miami players were ejected from the game.

There was a lot of trash talking going on days prior to the game, which then escalated onto the field. The schools are close in distance together and a lot of the players went to high school together, etc. and things got out of control onto the field.

After looking at the 2007-2008 schedule I was shocked to see that Miami and FIU will be playing each other again, especially after what happened last year. I cannot believe that the athletic directors of the two schools agreed to play again, I have a feeling that we are going to have a repeat from last season.

New Uniforms for 2007

The University of Miami football program have a lot of new things this season: new head coach, new assistants and new uniforms.

The uniforms, designed by Nike, are very similar to the past three seasons' uniforms, however there are some subtle changes. According to Hurricanesports.com, the changes include "different striping on the front and back and wider jersey numbers."

On September 1, the new uniforms will be unveiled when the Hurricanes host Marshall, opening the 2007 football season.

Heartbreaker Loss in Overtime

Friday afternoon the men's basketball season officially came to an end. The Hurricanes lost to Boston College 74-71 in overtime. The loss knocked the Canes out of receiving an invitation to play in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

This game shouldn't have went into overtime. The Canes were dominating the Eagles throughout the entire game. Watching their performance, I was actually shocked. At one point in the game, I remember seeing the Canes up by 12 points, then late in the second half their lead was quickly diminishing.

Head coach Frank Haith told a Sun-Sentinel reporter, "We had them on the ropes, we just didn't finish."

The Canes ended the season with a 12-20 record. Hopefully next year they will have a more promising season.

Miami Upsets Maryland

Well, today the Hurricanes upset Maryland, 67-62 in the first round of the ACC Tournament. I was at work today watching the game in disbelief. In the first quarter, the Canes were up by seven, I couldn't believe my eyes! Unfortunately, I was unable to catch the remainder of the game, however I heard that it was a great game.

Before the game started I said to a co-worker, "Seminole Earl", that the Canes have no chance of winning the game against Maryland, however I was wrong. Even though he is a Seminole fan, he was at the office cheering on the Canes to beat Maryland. So tomorrow morning I will have to go and shake his hand for being correct and supporting the Canes.

With this victory, the Canes will play number four seed, Boston College. Boston College received a bye for the first round of the tournament. The game will be Friday afternoon at 2 pm. No one ever thought that the Canes would pull off an upset, so do not count them out. They are still in the running for the ACC title.

Be sure to catch the Canes tomorrow afternoon on ESPN2.

First Step to Football Season

That's right, it's that time of year again, football season is fast approaching. Spring practices for the Miami Hurricanes football team have begun. On Tuesday, head coach Randy Shannon started his first day under the helm. The first spring practice was held at Greenfield Practice Fields.

According to Hurricanesports, "It was the first day, but players weren't in pads. There was a lot of enthusiasm and we wanted to get the timing right. That's what we worked on today," said Shannon. "The energy level was great. Guys flew around. Nobody walked from drill to drill. I wanted guys to understand what we're trying to get done. The (assistant) coaches have done a good job of that."

Shannon said that the team needs team chemistry to be successful this season. They all need to come together as one, instead of an individual.

The practice sessions are closed to the public, except for the scrimmages which will be held on March 23, 30 and April 7.

Lady Canes Out in the First Round

Last Thursday the Lady Canes basketball season officially came to an end. They lost to Georgia Tech in the first round of the 2007 ACC Tournament.

According to Hurricanesports, "I have a team that has a ton of heart," said second-year head coach Katie Meier. "I can't be more proud of them. Renee has been everything to this team. I think a lot was accomplished this season in terms of attitude, in terms of excellence, in terms of not accepting anything less. We had some tough losses on our roster, but you never saw us feeling sorry for ourselves."
Renee Taylor, ACC's leading scorer, finished the game with 14 points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist, in her last game as a Hurricane.

The final score of the game was 66-52.

2007 ACC Tournament

The 12th ranked Miami Hurricanes will be playing against Maryland on Thursday, in the opening round of the ACC Tournament. This year the tournament will be held in Tampa. The Canes basketball team has not been strong, hence being seeded 12th (last in the ACC).

Maryland, which is ranked 25th, lost to the Canes earlier in the season, 63-58. The Canes hope to do this same in the first round of the tournament.

The winner of the game will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be on Friday afternoon against Boston College, which received a first round bye.

Every year the University Miami plays the Florida Marlins during Spring Training. This year the game took place at Roger Dean Stadium, in Jupiter. The Canes lost 12-7, for the second straight year, in the Tuesday afternoon exhibition game.

The Canes had 11 hits against the MLB team. The pitchers combined to strike out nine Marlins.

Trailing 9-7 going into the eighth inning, Joe Borchard of the Florida Marlins had a three-run home run, putting the Marlins ahead 12-7.

Hurricane Scores 1,000th point on Senior Day

Even though the Miami Hurricanes women's basketball team lost their final regular season game, it was still a momentous day for one Cane.

Renee Taylor, senior guard, scored her 1,000 on a three-point shot against North Carolina Sate on Saturday afternoon.

Taylor, who scored 1,000 points in two seasons at UM, is the leading scorer in the ACC. She has become the 19th Hurricane to score 1,000 points and the sixth to accomplish it in two seasons.

Being the only Hurricane named to the All-ACC women's team, Taylor received 78 votes to earn a spot on the second team.

The Canes, seeded 11th in the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament, will play number six seeded Georgia Tech on Thursday.

For the complete list of pairings at the ACC Tournament, visit the Official Website of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

No. 11 Canes Continue to Win

The Canes who are 6-5 just finished a three-game series against the Elon Phoenix.

On Saturday, the Canes won 17-4 and won the game this afternoon 6-3.

This year's baseball team may be young, with only four seniors, but they are very talented.

There are still a lot of games left to be played this season, however the Canes are predicted to finish in the top 10 of the polls. Eleven games within the season, they are definitely on their way.

No March Madness for the Canes

March Madness is right around the corner, Selection Sunday is March 11, with the opening round starting on March 15.

Unfortunately, it does not look like the Canes will be invited to play in the tournament this year.

The Canes currently have a record of 10-16 and are 3-9 in conference play. The ACC is a very tough conference to play in and it is proven that the Canes can't handle.

The ACC standings (as of February 21)

  1. North Carolina

  2. Virgina

  3. Boston College

  4. Virginia Tech

  5. Duke

  6. Maryland

  7. Clemson

  8. Georgia Tech

  9. Florida State

  10. NC State

  11. Wake Forest

  12. Miami

Hey the basketball team may not be good, but the baseball team is ranked number five in the country! At least, Cane fans have something to look forward to before football season comes around.

Former Cane a Coach

Randy Shannon has completed the 2007 coaching staff with hiring two more coaches, Micheal Barrow and Wesley McGriff.

Barrow, the former Cane was at the U from 1989-1992 and an All-American in 1992. He will be returning to his alma mater to be the linebackers coach. He played in the NFL for 13 seasons as linebacker.

  • Houston Oilers 1992-1996

  • Carolina Panthers 1997-1999

  • New York Giants 2000-2003

  • Washington Redskins 2004

  • Dallas Cowboys 2005

McGriff is considered to be one of the Big 12's top recruiters. At Baylor, he was the recruiting coordinator and cornerbacks coach. He will be a vital part to the Canes secondary, which is returning nine players.

2007 coaching staff

  • Randy Shannon- head coach

  • Patrick Nix- offensive coordinator

  • Tim Walton- defensive coordinator

  • Micheal Barrow- linebackers

  • Clint Hurtt- defensive line

  • Wesley McGriff- defensive backs

  • Marquis Mosely- wide receivers

  • Joe Pannunzio- tight ends/special teams

According to Hurricanesports, "We have great teachers on the coaching staff. They are energetic and will be able to assist and direct the players we have to better themselves on and off the field with a championship mentality," said Shannon.

New Running Backs Coach

Yet, again another new coach. Tommie Robinson was named the running backs coach by Coach Shannon.

Before the University of Memphis, Robinson was an assistant at Georgia Tech (2002-2005).

Robinson has been coaching football since 1986, where he started off at Woodham High School in Pensacola, Fla.

Robinson's coaching career

  • 2006- Memphis (running backs)

  • 2002-2005- Georgia Tech (wide receivers/tight ends)

  • 2001- Oklahoma State (running backs)

  • 1998-2000- Dallas Cowboys (offensive assistant)

  • 1998- UNLV (running backs)

  • 1994-1997- TCU (wide receivers)

  • 1992-1993- Utah State (running backs)

  • 1991- Arkansas (graduate assistant)

  • 1987-1990- Central High School (Phenix City, Ala.)

  • 1986-1987- Woodham High School (Pensacola, Fla.)

New Offensive Line Coach

Well, Randy Shannon is at it again...hiring another new coach for the Hurricanes. Jeff Stoutland was named the new offensive line coach. Stoutland replaces Mario Cristobal, who is the new head coach at Florida International University.

Stoutland, who has spent the past seven season at Michigan State University, has paved the way for the number five offense in 2005.

He will be a great asset to the football program. With all of the new coaches coming on board, this may be a great year in sight for the Canes.

For more career information on Stoutland, check out UM's athletic site.

"We're excited about this class"

Head coach Randy Shannon's first recruiting class is very talented. The 18 recruits include two U.S. Army All-Americans, one Parade All-American and one Florida's Mr. Football.

""We wanted high-quality people first and foremost. Second, we wanted solid student-athletes, players who will work in the classroom. We wanted big-time athletes, which is one thing this program has always had. That's how you win games. And we wanted winners from winning high school programs. We're excited about this class. From top to bottom we filled our needs. We will have a lot of competition this year," said Shannon.

Position breakdown

  • Defensive Backs- five

  • Wide Receivers- three

  • Running Backs- three

  • Offensive Line- three

  • Defensive Line- one

  • Quarterback- one

  • Linebacker- one

The Canes stayed true to what they are known for, recruiting players from all across the country. This year, they have proven that statement.

Geographic breakdown

  • Florida- nine

  • Tennessee- two

  • Texas/Colorado/Georgia/Mississippi/South Carolina/Nebraska- one

For a complete list of the recruits and their high school stats, visit Hurricanesports.

National Signing Day

In a previous post, I had written about Robert Marve committing to play at the University of Miami, well today on National Signing Day, it became official. Marve, along with 17 others from around the nation, signed to play football at the U.

While watching the coverage on ESPNU, the Canes were ranked fourth in the ACC in regards to recruiting. ESPN was looking at the quantity of players recruited, NOT quality. In my opinion, I believe that the Canes should have been definitely ranked higher in the ACC. This year's recruiting class is very strong, with a lot of talent.

According to ESPN, the Canes were ranked 16th in the pre-signing day polls. The top five teams prior to Signing Day were:

  1. Florida

  2. USC

  3. Texas

  4. South Carolina

  5. Notre Dame

The Canes have 10 offensive starters and seven defensive starters returning next season.

In addition to signing Marve, the only quarterback in this year's recruiting class, the Canes signed nine offensive players and seven defensive players.

Overall, I think the Canes had a great Signing Day, and this is in major part of head coach, Randy Shannon. Shannon is well known around South Florida and has recruited five players from South Florida. Shannon has done a much better job at recruiting then former head coach, Larry Coker.

Some players who gave oral commitments to schools, decided to sign with the Canes. I think the program is going to be better sooner then fans have originally anticipated. This year's recruiting class proves to be very strong.

For a complete list of the signed recruits, visit Sun-Sentinel.

Starting Off on the Wrong Foot

Well this weekend put a damper on the Canes baseball team's hunt for the College World Series Title. The Canes opened the season with a three-game series against the Mercer Bears at Mark Light Field.

Friday under the lights, the Canes couldn't hold on to a 5-1 advantage and lost 6-5. On Saturday afternoon, the Canes looked to bounce back from the loss. Well, that was not the case.

It just seems like the Canes couldn't get it together, losing 8-5 against the Bears. Sunday's game was cancelled due to weather.

Starting off the season 0-2 is not a good sign, especially when are ranked number two in pre-season polls.

The third ranked Canes need to get their act together, as they will be hosting a three-game series against the 13th ranked UCLA Bruins, beginning Friday night at "The Light".

Devin Hester Sets Another Record

Former Miami Hurricane, Devin Hester, set another record in the Super Bowl tonight. It was the first time in Super Bowl history that a kickoff was returned for a touchdown. Hester ran the kickoff back for 92 yards.

Even though his team, the Chicago Bears, lost, Hester still played a vital part in the Bears' game. While watching the game on a big screen TV, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Hester running down the field.

Hester was not the only former Cane to have a play a part in the Super Bowl. Indianapolis Colts wide receiver, Reggie Wayne, caught a 53 yard pass from Peyton Manning, to put the Colts on the board. Wayne ended the game with two catches for a total of 61 yards and one touchdown.

Wayne and the Colts won the Super Bowl, however Hester set a Super Bowl record. Both players should be very proud of their performance.

Mr. Football Has Committed!!

The football gods were watching over Coral Gables today! Robert Marve gave his official commitment to the Hurricanes. Marve will sign with the Canes on National Signing Day, Feb. 7.

According to Sun-Sentinel.com, "I want to be their main guy where they're saying, 'We expect this guy to be the guy that's going to change the school, get us a championship,'" said Marve.

Well Canes fans...this is going to be a very interesting 2007 football season. This is a great step for the program, one which will hopefully give us an ACC championship.

Florida's Mr. Football a Hurricane?

Today is the day that all Hurricanes fan will be anxiously awaiting. Today, we should find out whether or not Florida's Mr. Football, Robert Marve, will commit to Miami.

Marve, of Tampa Plant High School, led his school to the Class 4A state title. He has set state records in passing yards (4,380), completions (280) and touchdowns (48).

According to Sun-Sentinel.com, "Look at Tim Tebow. The Florida Gators really believe in him and are going to make him the quarterback of their future. I want a school to believe in me like that. I think I found that," said Marve.

If the Hurricanes get Marve it will be BIG for the struggling offense. The Hurricanes haven't had a strong quarterback since Ken Dorsey. Having Marve under the helm will put the Hurricanes in contention of the ACC, that is if he gets the starting position job.

So Hurricane fans, cross your fingers, because this will mean a GREAT change with the football program.

Two Former Canes in the Super Bowl

This is the day that every boy dreams of...playing in the Super Bowl, where everyone is watching your performance. For two former Hurricanes, this dream has become a reality.

Devin Hester of the Chicago Bears and Reggie Wayne of the Indianapolis Colts will meet on Sunday, Feb. 4 at Dolphins Stadium to play in the biggest game of their lives. No matter which team wins, these two men have come a long way since leaving UM.

Hester has set an NFL record this year by scoring six kick returns for touchdowns. His longest kick return was for 108 yards, which tied the NFL record. In addition to setting an NFL record, he is the only rookie to make the All Pro Team.

Reggie Wayne- is there anything to say bad about this guy? He was drafted the 30th pick by the Colts in the 2001 draft. As a four-year stater at Miami, Wayne set a school record with 173 career catches. According to CBS SportsLine, Wayne is the number two wide receiver in the NFL. This season Wayne has 1310 yards, 86 catches and nine touchdowns. He is a vital part of the Colts offense.

Both Hester and Wayne are considered the "X" factor for their team, however only one will have the bragging rights of being part of the winning Super Bowl team. Who will it be...Hester of the Chicago Bears or Wayne of the Indianapolis Colts?

Canes Ranked #2 in Preseason Poll

Yet again, the University of Miami has established itself as a prestigious school, not only known for their football program, but for their baseball program as well.

The Canes are four-time national championships, winning the title in 1982, 1985, 1999 and 2001. The Canes hope to run for the title this year.

A poll released by Baseball America has the Canes in the number two spot behind the Owls of Rice University. Below are the top 10 teams in the poll:

  1. Rice

  2. Miami

  3. Clemson

  4. Texas

  5. North Carolina

  6. South Carolina

  7. Arkanas

  8. Vanderbilt

  9. Virginia

  10. Wichita State

According to the official athletic site for UM, "It is always good to have the Hurricanes' baseball program recognized by the media who cover the sport," said UM head baseball coach Jim Morris. "I am very excited about the upcoming season and the potential this club has despite losing seven players from last year's team to the Major League Baseball draft. We have a challenge ahead of us with the Atlantic Coast Conference again being extremely competitive and a very strong non-conference schedule."

The Canes will open the 2007 season playing in the alumni game, which will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Mark Light Stadium. They will host a three-game series against Mercer beginning on Feb. 2.

Hopefully, the Canes will make it to the College World Series this season and bring home another national championship title.

2007 Football Schedule is released

Driving home from work today, listening to 560 WQAM (the local sports radio station), I was informed that Miami will NO longer be playing Florida State on Labor Day. I said to myself, "it is about time." I think this is the best decision that the university has made. Look at what happened when Miami has played Florida State on Labor Day night, they have lost two consecutive seasons to the Seminoles.

The Orange Bowl will be hosting seven home games this season. The first home game will be held against Marshall. The Canes will only have four ACC matchups at the O.B., which will include: Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Virginia. The most notable, yet shocking home game is against the Florida International University Panthers.

After last year's bench-clearing brawl, I am shocked to see that FIU is playing the Canes. I understand that it is being held at the Orange Bowl, because of the capacity, however we all know what happened last year, and who says it won't happen again this year?

The fight between FIU and Miami was heard all around the nation. I was at that game and it was the worst thing I have ever witnessed. At one point, I was afraid for my life, because fights were beginning to break out in the stands. After the game, there were talks about ending the "rivalry" between the two schools.

Overall, the Canes have an easy home schedule; however the most difficult games are away, which could be detrimental to the team.

Head coach, Randy Shannon, is looking forward to the 2007 season, but knows that it will be very competitive, which is something Miami is used to.

For the complete 2007 football schedule, visit Hurricanesports.com.

The Wait is Finally Over

It is about time that head coach, Randy Shannon, has named an offensive coordinator. According to Sun-Sentinel.com, ""We're happy that we have a great new offensive coordinator, an energetic person who brings a lot of ideas to this program and to this team," Shannon said in a written statement."

On behalf of the Hurricanes fans around the nation, we too are happy that the football team has an offensive coordinator. After reading the message boards on Grassy, many fans were getting anxious and irritated as to why Shannon was taking such a long time to fill the position. Did you ever think that he was out looking for the right person for the job?

"It's a great opportunity," Nix told the Atlanta Journal Constitution on Friday. "It's a chance to go and get some experience at a different place. I think most people know what my goal is [to be a Division I-A head coach], and this is the next step." (Hurricanesports)

Looks like the fans will have to wait a little longer to have Shannon announce the names for coaches of the runningbacks and linebackers. So fans, be patient....we want the best coaches to lead the football team to a successful season!

Offensive Coordinator?

Is this true? Does Miami really have an offensive coordinator? According to ESPN.com, Patrick Nix is the new offensive coordinator at UM. Nix has been Georgia Tech's offensive coordinator for the past three years. A close source to Nix has confirmed this information, however it has not been made official by the university.
